• Review the architect’s standard contract agreement and make a list of what will be included in the fee, what services are hourly and what reimbursable expenses you should anticipate. Often the lowest price does not include many of the needed services.
• Know what sort of things are considered “Extras” to the contract.
• Prices will vary depending upon the amount of service and experience. Expect fees between 8% and 12% of construction costs. You will spend a long time together, be sure the services meet all of your needs.
• Find out who in the firm will do your design and construction drawings, who do you look to for help.
